Phase 2b Gemini Upgrade: 6 - 17 December 2010

The HECToR phase 2b system will be upgraded shortly to the latest Cray Gemini interconnect. This upgrade should provide a significant perfomance increase for many applications.

The work is due to start on Monday 6 December at 09:00 and we plan to return the system to users on Friday 17 December.

This upgrade includes both the physical hardware installation and a major software re-install. A completely new version of the operating system is required in order to support the new interconnect.

Once the system returns all users will need to recompile their codes for the new interconnect.

We expect to return the system to users on Friday 17th December, and will communicate more precise timings nearer the time.

The phase 2a system will be available during the upgrade, with the exception of Wednesday 8 December from 12:00-18:00.
