£113m super computer to carry a Torch for the Capital
Edinburgh Evening News: A £113 MILLION-POUND supercomputer capable of unlocking the secrets of global warming and making giant strides in medical research is to be built near the Capital.
The sophisticated machine is likely to be the most powerful in the UK and one of the world's leading supercomputers.
It will be based at Edinburgh Technopole, the science and technology centre at Roslin, Midlothian, and will be surrounded by top-level security 24 hours a day.
Edinburgh University company UoE HPCx Ltd is currently building a home for the supercomputer that is roughly the size of two tennis courts. One of the directors said that, when completed in the autumn, the site will resemble the Torchwood headquarters in the BBC's Dr Who sci-fi spin-off.
